10th Annual Woodstock International Film Festival

WIFF2012

The Woodstock Theatre presents the Tenth Annual Woodstock International Film Festival, featuring five nominated or award winning films. The series runs Friday, January 20 through Tuesday, January 24. Tickets for all five films may be purchased in advance for $30. Single tickets for each feature are $7.50.

In A Better World
Friday, January 20 at 7:00 & 9:30 p.m.
When schoolboys Christian and Elias are involved in a violent incident, their fathers are initially unable to grasp the full implications of the boy’s actions. Elias’ father, Anton, an idealistic doctor often absent from home, tries to communicate his own commitment to non-violence to the boys, but the troubled Christian continues to see Anton’s beliefs as a sign of weakness.
Join us for a film discussion with Victor Aronovich at La Petite Creperie on the Square after the 7:00 p.m. show of In A Better World. Victor Aronovich is from Prime Time Production with more than 25 years of creating award-winning media, former writer, producer and director at ABC-TV.

Incendies

Following the death of their mother, Nawal, twins Jeanne and Simon attempt to carry out her final wishes and deliver letters on her behalf. Their efforts will take them to her native Lebanon, where, as a young woman, Nawal underwent experiences during the period of the county’s civil war that she has never shared with her children.

It is 1977 and the workers at the umbrella plant which Suzanne’s husband runs since her father’s death, go on strike. When her husband confronts them, he is taken hostage and the slightly bubble-headed Suzanne must deal with the situation. She calls on the town mayor, a former suitor, for assistance.

In the wake of World War II, as the Algerian independence movement gains support, three brothers follow very different paths. SaĂŻd rejects political involvement in favor of moneymaking schemes, while Abdelkader is imprisoned for his revolutionary actions and Messaoud fights for the French in Indochina.
