TCD high school Fire Science and Criminal Justice students honor fallen heroes of September 11

High school students in the Criminal Justice and Fire Science programs at Technology Center of DuPage in Addison remembered those killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 with two memorial ceremonies (one morning, one afternoon) on Friday. The students were joined by members of the Addison police and fire departments.

The students marched out to the school's flagpole and stood at attention during the ceremonies. A Criminal Justice student lowered the flag to half mast, and Fire Science students placed the symbolic "fallen firefighter" gear at the base of the pole. Then representatives of each program read a short essay about 9-11, recalling the sacrifice of firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officials that day. Flowers were then placed at the flagpole, followed by a moment of silence. At the ceremony's conclusion, students solemnly filed back inside TCD to their respective program areas.

Technology Center of DuPage is the career and technical education campus for 24 high schools in the DuPage County area, offering students 21 programs that prepare them for college and careers in those fields. Ironically, the Fire Science program opened at TCD in August of 2001 -- just a couple weeks before the September 11 attacks. Criminal Justice is in its third year at the school.
