Winnetka, May 8-13: Resident says pine trees were killed, and more

The following incidents were taken from Winnetka Police Department reports between May 8-13.

ATTEMPTED HOME BURGLARY

A second-floor window of home in the 1300 block of Sunview Lane was discovered damaged at 8:45 a.m. May 7. No one apparently was able to get inside and nothing was reported stolen. The damage was estimated at $250.

THEFT

A men’s bicycle, worth $670, was reported stolen sometime between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from the bike rack outside New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave., where it had been locked. The bicycle had a silver bottle holder and a chrome kickstand.

A wallet was reported stolen from a purse that had been left unattended between 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. May 10 in the 800 block of Pine Street. The loss was estimated at $180.

An Apple iPhone, a wallet, a pair of shorts and a combination lock, worth a combined $180, were reported stolen from an unlocked locker in the boy’s locker room at New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave., at 11:28 a.m. May 9. The theft likely took place between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. May 8.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Sometime between April 23 and May 6, someone cut the underground electrical wires to a lawn sprinkler system at a residence in the 100 block of Sheridan Road. The resident also reported May 12 that someone apparently sprayed an unknown chemical on their pine trees, causing them to die. The total loss was estimated at $5,000.

Four wooden boards of a fence outside a home in the 500 block of Meadow Road were reported damaged at 10:40 p.m. May 12, resulting in $3,200 in damages.

DUI

A 41-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 1:39 a.m. May 9 near the intersection of Forestway Drive and Willow Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after an officer saw him allegedly drive off the roadway.

TRAFFIC

A 23-year-old Des Plaines woman was arrested at 7:01 p.m. May 12 in the 1300 block of Willow Road and charged with driving with an expired license and cited for speeding.
