116 sickened in nationwide salmonella outbreak

A nationwide salmonella outbreak has now sickened 116 people, with a new case reported in Illinois, federal health officials said Wednesday.

The newest case in Illinois was reported in McLean County, in the central part of the state, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 10, according to the state Department of Public Health.

The outbreak was first confirmed April 4, when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 93 people — including eight in Illinois — had been infected.
