Inside Outside, Pink Flowers

"Summer Color, Summer Light," an exhibition of paintings by Stephen Dinsmore will be on view at Anne Loucks Gallery from June 15 – August 10, 2012. An opening reception with the artist present will be held on Friday June 15th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

Stephen Dinsmore is well known for his abstract landscape paintings, as well as his still life and figurative compositions that suggest influences of Matisse, Bonnard, and Diebenkorn. His highly expressive paintings evoke his love of color, light, nature, and “things for which I have a great fondness.” With his loose gestural style, and lively handling of materials, his paintings balance on edge between realism and abstraction. He writes, “For me, painting means being on the lookout for an image or idea that excites. So many things count: the creamy light of late afternoon on landscape; the abstract beauty of marks on the side of a train car; an interior filled with color and reverie; a fly fisherman in shadow; a disregarded corner of town. I try to make a painting that has in it the magic and mystery of the thing; the alchemy; the thing that excites."
