Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit based in Lake Forest, has been recognized as a nominee for the Chicago Sun-Times Charity Trust Sun Shine Project, a grant program that supports youth in education, art and civic engagement.

Since its founding less than two years ago, Bernie’s Book Bank has collected, processed and distributed more than 345,000 books to at-risk children in the Chicagoland area. Today, children in more than 55 schools receive bags of quality, donated children’s books from Bernie’s Book Bank at least twice a year – books that are theirs to keep, to share, to cherish forever.

Bernie’s Book Bank is very familiar to residents of Wilmette. Schools in Wilmette have helped collect more than 7,200 books for Bernie's Book Bank. In addition, Morning Glory Flower Shop, located in Wilmette, is a proud member of the Book Drop Network and an ongoing book collection partner for Bernie’s Book Bank, providing a convenient place for Wilmette residents to donate their used children's books. Fans of Bernie’s Book Bank in Wilmette are encouraged to vote and tell others to vote for the organization.

“The Sun Shine Project grant is a huge opportunity for a young organization like Bernie’s Book Bank,” said Executive Director Brian Floriani. “With a $50,000 grant, we can expand our program and serve thousands more children. Because we’re a lean organization, $50,000 equates to an additional 300,000 books distributed.”

The Sun Shine Project grants will be awarded to organizations based on the impact they make in the community and the most number of votes and comments. So if you want to support Bernie's Book Bank's growth, be sure to take two minutes to vote and leave comments. Voting runs through Sunday, October 9.

To vote for Bernie’s Book Bank, go to: http://www.chicagosunshineproject.com. “Each vote we receive is critical to helping Bernie’s Book Bank deliver books into the hands of thousands of children who have none of their own, " said Floriani.
