Wilmette's Defining Moments Scrapbooking & Paper Crafts Store will hold a "Summer Shopping Bazaar" open to the public on Saturday, July 30th from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The day will include a mini-presentation by education consultant Pattie Bross, a local speaker and Wilmette resident, and a variety of visiting merchants. All involved are working in support of the National Runaway Switchboard to help raise funds to help children and their families in today's economy.

Known as "Mrs. Pattie", Bross, a former teacher, has an educational consulting practice working with families in the home. Her practice encompasses parent coaching, organization, and time management for students. On July 30th, Bross will feature a mini-talk: "Ready, Set, Organize Your Child to Learn!" Discussing her programs, Bross says, "Organization and time management are critical skills that children need to learn starting at a very young age. These are the skills that will help them be prepared for the school year–not just when summer is over–but every day of their lives, from preschool through college and beyond. Summer is the perfect time to reinforce these skills."

On Saturday the 30th at Defining Moments, "Mrs. Pattie" will kick off the fundraiser for NRS by presenting her program "basics" from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. including 15 minutes for parents questions. (Bross will be expanding on her presentation at later dates and locations in the months ahead.)

Also on July 30th at the Bazaar will be Alisa Levine and her IMRubz Line of Polished Aluminum Serving Dishes molded in unique shapes, colors and sizes. Levine's products include handpainted accessories for children's rooms and the home. Premier Designs Jewelry's newest line of affordable and elegant jewelry will be presented by Mary Felish. Each of the merchants and Defining Moments will donate a percentage of their sales to NRS to support their programs to help the homeless and runaway youth of the United States.

A raffle which includes a $150.00 gift certificate for an 'in home' family photo shoot with Chicagoland photographer Ben Elsass, a pair of tickets to attend a Chicago Cubs baseball game from David Masur, DLM Architects Ltd., and other donated prizes will be held to raise funds for NRS. Raffle tickets will be 3 for $10.00 and 1 for $5.00. In support of NRS, Pattie Bross has offered to waive her presentation fee, but July 30th mini-talk attendees are asked to make a donation of $5.00 per person (or more) to NRS. Reservations to attend may be made by calling 847/728-0148.

"We're learning from NRS many teens are having problems due to the economy. The true shock is, according to NRS, teens from all neighborhoods, ethnicities and backgrounds run from home. In 2011, between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth will run from home. Many people don't realize the extent of this crisis as parents whose kids have run don't want to admit it and kids who run don't want to talk about it," reported Jocelyn Tobias, Defining Moments owner.

"We often refer to the runaway problem as a 'silent' crisis. The good news is NRS is a 24-hour confidential teen helpline, available to help them come up with a plan of action no matter what they're dealing with, at home, or on the run," said Maureen Blaha, Executive Director, National Runaway Switchboard (NRS), 3080 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, ILlinois.

Scrapbook themes at Defining Moments are unlimited and include babies, cooking, pets, school, travel, 'girl power', weddings and anniversaries, birthdays, and more.

Vendors featured at Defining Moments include Maya Road, Kaiser Craft, Melissa Frances, American Craft, Petaloo, My Mind's Eye, Adornitt, Jenni Bowlin, BoBunny, May Arts Ribbon, and more. Defining Moments invites customers to have parties or meetings at the store too, and they do 'custom projects' for busy customers. Capabilities include event and table decor for parties, bridal showers, and weddings.

The National Runaway Switchboard (NRS), established in 1971, serves as the federally designated national communication system for homeless and runaway youth. Located in Chicago, NRS is recognized as the oldest hotline of its kind in the world, NRS, with the support of over 150 volunteers, handles an average of 100,000 calls annually–more than 3 million calls since the
organization's inception. NRS provides crisis intervention, referrals to local resources, and education and prevention services to youth, families and community members throughout the country 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Over 14,000 youth have been reunited with their families through the NRS 'Home Free' program done in collaboration with Greyhound Lines, Inc. The NRS crisis hotline is 1-800-RUNAWAY.
