Haven Hits a Home Run

Haven Youth and Family Services dazzled a crowd of 215 guests from the North Shore at their 11th annual spring benefit held April 17 at the Sunset Ridge Country Club. The theme for the event was Home Run For Haven. The evening exceeded all expectations raising a record breaking $100,000 for this agency that services local teens and their families. The auctioneer was Winnetka resident Ashton Chase. The lively auction featured many items including a private parking space for a New Trier student, labradoodle puppy, a day of sailing on a luxury yacht, lunch with Harold Ramis and a Pat Foley Chicago Blackhawks jersey signed by the entire 2009-2010 team.

Haven has four full time and two half time social workers and outreach workers that provide counseling services and arrange emergency housing for New Trier township teenagers in crisis. Our outreach workers have a daily presence at New Trier High School and Washburne Junior High School and the counseling staff provides wellness workshops at other area school. The annual benefit provides nearly 25 percent of the annual operating budget and allows Haven to continue to provide all of it's services free of charge to the community. The money generated at this event will go toward additional staffing for outreach workers and increased programing in our local schools.

Home Run for Haven, which was sponsored by the Haven Board of Directors, was chaired by Wilmette resident and Haven Board member Marcia Greening. The entire Haven staff provided strong assists led by Bonnie Ryan, Haven's communications director and youth counselor and Amy O'Leary, Haven's executive director.

The funds raised from this profitable event will be used increase Haven's programing around the North Shore. This summer Haven is focusing on educating incoming freshman about the stressors related to the high school transition.
