Wilmette, May 1-6: Cashier at Bed, Bath and Beyond charged with theft, and more

The following incidents were taken from Wilmette Police Department reports on May 1-6.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

A 55-year-old Wilmette woman was arrested at 10:25 p.m. May 5 in the 100 block of Garrison Avenue and charged with domestic battery after receiving a report of an incident at the home.

BURGLARY

A $600 men’s bicycle was reported stolen at 6:19 a.m. May 1 from an unlocked garage in the 100 block of Girard Avenue. A second bicycle in the garage was not taken.

AUTO BURGLARY

A wallet containing $90 was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Elmwood Avenue sometime between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. May 3. The wallet was apparently stolen from a woman’s purse while she visited a friend. The total loss was estimated at $200.

THEFT

A $500 men’s bicycle was reported stolen sometime between 9 a.m. April 30 and 7:30 a.m. May 4. It had been locked outside the Metra train station, 722 Green Bay Road.

Two Japanese maple trees from the back yard of a home in the 700 block of Park Avenue were reported stolen at 6:26 p.m. May 3. The two trees, about 10 feet tall, had recently been purchased for a total of $460 and were still in pots with tags attached. They were likely taken sometime after 7:30 a.m. that morning.

A $250 men’s bicycle was reported stolen sometime between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. May 3 from the 1000 block of Linden Avenue, where it had been locked to a fence post.

A 36-year-old Evanston woman was arrested at 4:37 p.m. May 1 at Bed, Bath and Beyond, 3232 Lake Ave., and charged with felony theft. The woman, a cashier at the store, allegedly stole credit cards from three customers by handing their receipts to them after a transaction, but keeping the card. The woman also allegedly took a purse that had been left in a shopping cart. The purse was later recovered in the woman’s car. One of the credit card owners declined to press charges against the cashier.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A No Parking sign was found knocked over at 11:16 a.m. May 5 in the 2000 block of Old Glenview Road. A vehicle had apparently driven off the roadway and struck the pole.

DRUGS

A 45-year-old Wilmette man was arrested at 5:30 p.m. May 5 in the 1900 block of Wilmette Avenue and charged with possession of marijuana and driving with a defective muffler after a traffic stop. Police confiscated 17 grams of marijuana, which has an estimated street value of $150.

TRAFFIC

A 24-year-old Skokie man was arrested at 5:04 p.m. May 3 in the 2700 block of Old Glenview Road and charged with driving without a license and speeding after a traffic stop. He was also discovered to be wanted on a Champaign County warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 25-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 8:50 a.m. May 1 in the 2800 block of Wilmette Avenue and charged with driving without a license, driving without insurance, driving without tail lights and speeding.
