DuPage County Fair opens Wednesday

For now, the animal pens are empty and the smell of carnival food — elephant ears, cotton candy and hot dogs — is absent from the humid July air, but that will all change Wednesday when the DuPage County Fair opens to the public. Still, there's work to be done before the thousands pour through the gates as Buddy Haas, who was busy setting up livestock stalls, knows. Others in 4H clubs were at the fairgrounds before the event's start to have their handiwork appraised by judges. The event located at the fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road, Wheaton, will feature, among other activities, 4H exhibits and displays, live music, monster truck shows and rides. This year marks the first time the fair will serve alcohol and a beer and wine tasting fundraiser to benefit the Friends of the DuPage County Fair will take place from 6:30 to to 9:30 July 27.
