Public Invited to D219 Town Hall Financial Address on May 23

Over the past nine years the Niles Township High School District 219 Superintendent has invited specific parents, students and community members to a Financial Advisory Committee meeting to learn about plans for the upcoming school year budget and to recommend student fees. This year, in an effort to make the district’s operations as transparent as possible, Superintendent Nanciann Gatta is inviting all residents of Niles Township to take part.

This year’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 in Niles West High School’s new South Lobby Commons. Parking is immediately adjacent to the location, in the parking lot south of the school, with entrance off Gross Point Road.

Dr. Gatta will review the district’s financial condition and highlight important aspects of the 2012-13 budget from 7 to 7:30, and after that will take questions from the audience. Beginning about 8 p.m, the audience will break into small groups to discuss recommendations for student fees. After those
discussions, Dr. Gatta will ask for recommendations from each group, with a goal of leaving the meeting with a specific recommendation for the Board of Education on student fees.

“This marks the tenth year that the Niles Township community has helped our administration and Board of Education identify and address those issues that affect our financial well-being,” Dr. Gatta said. “Such issues include our use of resources, the challenges facing all school districts relative to expenditures and revenue and the on-going evaluation of our present student fee structure.”
