Boomers get cleaned up

As the 24-member roster of the new Schaumburg Boomers baseball team became official Wednesday, the team gathered for a haircut or shave in preparation to meet their host families. The event also invited fans to meet the team, which went through its final cuts this week, at Roosters Men's Grooming Center — a local sponsor. Owners Dave and Candace Laudadio said they wanted to give the players the opportunity to get cleaned up before meeting their local host families. Team spokesman Ed McCaskey said no players making the final cut are from the Chicago area, but a few once played for the nearby Gary South Shore RailCats. The team also includes 11 rookies, he said. The team's first game is Friday on the road against the Lake Erie Crushers, with opening day May 25 at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium, formerly Alexian Field.
