Coming to a park near you!

Thank you to all the parents and children who came out to our first day of Free Travel Camp brought to you by the Round Lake Area Park District. During the past four summers the Round Lake Area Park District's free Summer Traveling Camp Program has provided parents/caregivers the tools, knowledge and skills needed to actively engage children in school readiness skills. Through mentoring, this free program has encouraged and motivated parents and caregivers to become their child's first teacher.

Once again the Traveling Summer Camp is bringing the classroom to families in the Round Lake community thanks to a grant from the United Way of Lake County. The Round Lake Area Park District will setup camp once a day, 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday mornings from 9:30am-12pm beginning June 11th. Teachers prepare a lesson plan each week focusing on the Illinois Learning Standards and include activities to increase alphabet, numbers, shapes, literacy and writing skills. Parents are mentored on how to work with their child to increase their childs school readiness. Skills and activities include small and large motor activities, crafts and a healthy snack. At the end of each session parents and their children receive take home bags to continue the activities at home with their children.

Monday: Greenview Park - 1519 N. Cherokee Drive, Round Lake Beach. Tuesday: Shagbark Park - 1940 Lotus Dr. Round Lake Heights. Wednesday: Fairview Park (next to Beach School) - 1505 Ardmore Dr, Round Lake Beach. Thursday: Wilma Turner Park - 1989 N. Karen Lane, Round Lake Beach.
