Police: Three men duct-taped mouths of elderly man, woman in home invasion

Romeoville Police are seeking the public’s help in apprehending three men in their 20s suspected of forcing their way into a home on the 700 block of Washington Street around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday and taking an undisclosed amount of money after hitting an elderly woman.

Police, in a prepared statement released this morning, said one of the men came to the home of a 62-year-old man and a 99-year-old woman, knocked on the door and said he needed to check the water pressure. The male resident said he hadn’t requested anyone to come to their home and asked the man for identification.

When the visitor failed to produce identification, the resident told him to leave and threatened to call police. As he attempted to close the door, all three men forced their way into the home, knocking the woman to the floor.

Two men picked up the woman, sat her in a chair and applied duct tape to her mouth. Police said the men demanded money, and one man hit the woman on her head and on her face, causing non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects also sat the male resident in a chair and used duct tape to secure his arms to the chair and cover his mouth. He was uninjured, police said.

After ransacking the home, the men fled on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Romeoville Police Department at 815-886-7219.
