District 202 approves hiring of three new assistant principals

Drauden Point Middle School, Walker’s Grove Elementary School and the Bonnie McBeth Learning Center will have new assistant principals next school year.

The District 202 Board of Education approved the new hires at its June 11, 2012 regular meeting.

Ira Jones Middle School 8th grade special education teacher Kristie Mate will be the new assistant principal at Drauden Point Middle School. She replaces current assistant principal Angelina Strum.

Mate started her education career in 2001. She worked two years as a special education paraprofessional at both Heritage Grove and Indian Trail middle schools.

She student-taught for a year at both Walker’s Grove Elementary, and Plainfield High School – Central Campus and then returned to the classroom in 2004 at Ira Jones.

Ridge Elementary School fourth grade teacher Robert Battey will be the new assistant principal at Walker’s Grove Elementary School. He replaces current assistant principal Casey Hartman, who was named the new principal at Lincoln Elementary School earlier this spring.

Battey started his education career in District 202 in 2005. He taught 2nd grade at Ridge Elementary for four years, and then moved to 4th grade the last three years.

Finally, special education teacher Erica Schramm will be the first-ever assistant principal at the Bonnie McBeth Learning Center.

Schramm started her career in 2004 as a special education teacher for the Grundy County Special Education Cooperative, teaching first through fifth grades.

Since 2009 Schramm has worked as the Special Education Program Coordinator for the Grundy county Special Education Cooperative.
