St. Mary Immaculate Parish Adds Grotto to Cemetery

DSC01736

During the annual Memorial Day Mass at the St. Mary Immaculate Parish Cemetery, and through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. William Avery, the parish dedicated a new grotto depicting an apparition of The Immaculate Conception to St. Bernadette of Lourdes. This beautiful new addition features statues of Our Lady and Bernadette, an altar and two benches where folks can pray.

The Memorial Day Mass was offered by Fr. David Medow, Pastor of St. Mary Immaculate and Father Paul Weberg, OSB, the homilist and concelebrant. A Benedictine monk at the Marmion community in Aurora, Fr. Paul served as a chaplain and officer in the Illinois National Guard and was deployed to Iraq several times to meet the pastoral and sacramental needs of our nation's military personnel serving there.

The parish also dedicated a beautiful new memorial at Fr. Van Duren's gravesite. We thank Joe and Jane Sieracki, who worked diligently over the years to create a fitting tribute and memorial to our beloved former pastor of St. Mary's, Fr. Charles Van Duren, pastor from 1982 to 1995, serving before, during and after the tornado.

The cemetery is located northeast on Plainfield-Naperville Road approximately ¾ mile northeast of Rt. 59 and ½ mile southwest of 135th St. in Plainfield.
