Chorus of Du Page welcomes new musical director: Craig Ahlgrim

Chorus of DuPage Director, Craig Ahlgrim

Chorus of DuPage Director, Craig Ahlgrim

Craig Ahlgrim is the new musical director of the Chorus of Du Page, a men’s barbershop chorus that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011. Prior to his appointment, Craig’s directorial experience with Illinois based men’s barbershop choruses was as director of the Aurora Lamplighters and as assistant director with The West Towns Chorus.

Craig is a third generation barbershopper. His father and both grandfathers sang barbershop. Both his sister and his wife sing barbershop with the woman’s Sweet Adelines. A 22-year veteran of signing barbershop, Craig brings a wealth of barbershop experience to his leadership role with the Chorus of Du Page. The quartet, Jukebox, that he and his father sing with placed in the top 10 at the Illinois District Barbershop Quartet competition. For three of the past seven years Craig has been part of an Illinois District first place championship quartet.

In 2006, Craig sang tenor with the Illinois District Quartet Champion, Stolen Bases. In 2009, again as a tenor, he was with that year’s Illinois District Quartet Champion, Off the Record. Last year, 2011, he switched to baritone and once again finished in first place as part of the Illinois District Quartet Champion, Waldorf Hair Company.

Not only is Craig a three time Illinois District Men’s Quartet champion, but he also sang with his sister Wendy as part of a mixed quartet, the Skinkers, who were a Mid-America Barbershop Quartet Expo Champion.

"One of my motivations for joining the Chorus of Du Page is how they operate in such a smooth and professional manner” said Craig Ahlgrim. “They make anyone feel welcome."

President of the Chorus of Du Page chapter, Paul Palmer said, “We are pleased to have Craig with his energy and enthusiasm lead us into our 51st year.”

The Chorus of Du Page was founded in 1961 in Naperville, Illinois. The Chorus performs regularly at private, public and charitable venues throughout DuPage County and surrounding communities. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington Street, directly south of Edward Hospital in Naperville.
