Historian Kate Gingold talks about early Will County settlers and the research of her book, Ruth by Lake and Prairie.

"Sailing to Will County" seems an unlikely title for a presentation about prairie settlers, but that's just one quirky fact historian and author Kate Gingold will share on Thursday, April 21 at Cedarlake Village.

Many families traveled from the eastern states by ship via the Great Lakes to start fresh in Illinois, including families in Cook, DuPage and Will Counties. "Sailing to Will County" highlights some of these first settlers and brings to life early Illinois history with slides of maps, art and photographs.

The public is welcome at this free event. For more information or directions to Cedarlake Village, call 815-254-3564 or see www.cedarlakevillage.com.

Gingold is the author of four books on local history, three of them for young people. See www.KateGingold.com for book details or to arrange a presentation.
