Sports Person of the Month voting ends at 9 p.m.

The Triblocal/Valley Honda Sports Person of the month contest voting continues through September 17.

Go to to view the athletes nominated this month and to cast your vote.
This is the second year in a row that Valley Honda and Triblocal have teamed up to recognize student athletes and make donations to local schools, but the first year in Bolingbrook, Romeoville and Plainfield.
 Each month Triblocal, in conjunction with and participating schools, will nominate worthy athletes from local schools and your votes will decide who wins.
Contest sponsor Valley Honda will donate $500 to the winners school and the athlete will be honored with a plaque.

Once you are registered you can also share stories, photos and events in your neighborhood at and you may see them here in print every Thursday.
Voting continues through 9 p.m. Sept. 17. We ask that you vote only once for your favorite athlete.

Plainfield North
Jackie Altansarnai was the girls tennis individual champion at no. 1 singles at the Plainfield North varsity tennis tournament on Aug. 29.
Coach Sargy Letuchy, varsity tennis coach, selected his doubles team of Emily Schaedel and Celina Onyejiaka as Athletes of the Month for the month of August. Schaedel and Onyejiaka are undefeated so far this year, going 5-0. This was their first week playing together and they have developed a good chemistry as a tandem. Their highlight came in the first win of the season against Plainfield South, where they won the fourth and deciding match to give Bolingbrook High School a 4-3 victory.
Plainfield Central
Keith Marry is 6-foot-1, 190-pound outside linebacker with the Plainfield Central High School football team. Keith and his defense led his team to an 8-1 finish last year while maintaining a perfect 5.0 GPA
Plainfield East
Erick Urbieta is a 6-foot, 270-pound linemen that anchors the Plainfield East varsity offensive line. Urbieta  is a leader and has great agility for a man his size. He also made of the first kickoff in Plainfield East varsity football history as the place kicker for Friday nights contest.
2008 winners
Last year Valley Honda presented checks totalling $4,000 to Naperville area school districts and athletes from a variety of sports were honored with plaque presentations in front of their fellow athletes, students and parents.
Last years winners included: Danny Pawola, Bryan Ciesiulk, and Kevin Overholt from Nequa Valley High School; Emily McGee, Naperville Central; Jelani Johnson and Vanessa DiBernardo from Waubonsie Valley High School; Mario Gonzalez from west Aurora High School and Daniel Okapel from East Aurora High School
