Moraine valley announces 2012 Internship Employer of the Year

The Job Resource Center at Moraine Valley Community College has presented the 2012 Internship Employer of the Year award to Amanda Mauceri, associate executive director at Smith Village, at the fifth annual Intern and Employer Meeting and Awards Ceremony.
Mauceri, a graduate of Moraine Valley’s Recreation Therapy Program, created the internship partnership with the college soon after being hired at Smith Village, a senior living retirement community in Chicago. Under her direction, Smith Village has served as an internship site and on the Recreation Advisory Board, given professional presentations to classes, employed many Moraine Valley graduates, assisted with developing the college’s Gerontology certificate, and acted as an experiential learning site for various class projects.
Donna McCauley, professor and coordinator of Recreation Therapy and Recreation Management at Moraine Valley, nominated Mauceri for the award because she works hard to ensure all students have a quality internship experience, makes time in her busy schedule to meet with the students weekly and exposes them to many areas, including marketing, senior programming, hospitality, staff meetings, special event planning, community out trips, and continuing education opportunities.
“I have been an Internship Coordinator at Moraine Valley for over 20 years, and I have never experienced the commitment and dedication from any other internship supervisor like Amanda Mauceri and Smith Village,” McCauley said. “They are deserving of the Internship Employer of the Year Award.”
