Chicago Christian Athletes Take Time to Serve Local Middle School Students

Over the past two months, the Chicago Christian sophomore and varsity men’s basketball players hosted a Saturday morning basketball clinic called Knight Hoops for area middle school students. At Knight Hoops, twenty four CCHS players logged over 350 hours of community service during the six week program while participating as coaches and scorekeepers for the 7th and 8th grade basketball competition.

Twenty-two schools were represented among the fifty players who competed each week. The program recently crowned its champions this past Saturday after a single elimination tournament. Coached by CCHS senior Josh Potter and junior Kaleb DeJager, the Red team was a true “Cinderella story.” They did not win one regular season game, going 0-6. However, when it was all said and done, the team came together at the right time, winning every tournament game and taking the crown of Knight Hoops Champion 2011-12.

In addition, John VanderWall was crowned Knight Hoops Three Point Shootout Champion. John attends Southwest Christian School in Tinley Park.
