Bond was set at $20,000 this week for a 57-year-old Park Forest man charged with possession of child pornography in connection with his arrest in March 2011 for stalking a pre-teen girl.

James Shaver of the 0-100 block of Brookside Road reportedly turned himself in to police Tuesday on the Class 3 felony charge, filed after the U.S. Secret Service found child pornography during a forensic examination of the phone. The alleged stalking victim was not pictured, police said.

Shaver is scheduled to return to court April 11.

His phone was seized by Orland Park Police March 18, 2011, after they arrested him for stalking the girl. He is scheduled to return to court May 22 on a multiple-count charge of stalking.

Police said they learned of Shaver’s alleged interest in the then-11-year-old girl around 4 p.m. March 16, 2011, when she flagged down a patroling squad car on the 15200 block of Orland Brook Drive in Orland Park.

She and her then-9-year-old friend told police a man had “tried to get me into his car” and provided a description of him, his car and part of the registration plate number.

She said the man later identified as Shaver wanted her to get into his car to retrieve keys belonging to her. She and her friend  told police he also asked to meet with her the next afternoon to buy her a milkshake.

Police subsequently learned Shaver previously had cared for the girl in his home after school through an arrangement with the mother.

Police said Shaver continued coming to Orland Park. The girl’s father told police she spotted Shaver around 2:35 p.m. Feb. 11, 2011, while the father was driving her on Orlan Brook.

During that investigation, police reportedly found an aerial photo of the child’s home on Shaver’s computer; a teacher also provided cell phone photos showing him sitting in his car near the girl’s school.
