Hungry Northbrook Residents Choose Raspberry Ribbon Chocolate Cake as Hungry Monkey's Newest Cake Creation!

More than 100 Hungry Monkey Baking Company's Facebook friends came out to Prairie Grass Cafe in Northbrook to taste and vote on four cake finalists Tuesday night, January 31st. Prairie Grass hosted the event, and Hungry Monkey customers enjoyed canapes and cake. The four finalists were Candied Orange Peel Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Covered Cherry and Chocolate Cake, Raspberry Ribbon Chocolate Cake, and Mint Candied Orange Peel Chocolate Cake. The Raspberry Ribbon just barely edged out the Candied Orange Peel Chocolate Cake. World-renowned Pastry Chef, two-time James Beard Award Winner & Cookbook Author Gale Gand (Riverwoods) attended; her favorite was the Candied Orange Peel Chocolate Cake. Some customers jokingly demanded a recount and asked if there were "hanging chads!" The new cake will be in stores, both Sunset Foods & Mariano's Fresh Markets, by the end of March.

Northbrook residents, Amy Wise (l) and Jen Fishman (r), partners at Peace of Candy, with Cindy Kienzle (m) of Lake Forest, owner of Hungry Monkey. Terri State (l) and Maddi Stat (m) of Northbrook came out to pick their favorite cake, Chocolate Covered Cherry Chocolate Cake.

Northfield resident Bette Kahn met Hungry Monkey's owner, Cindy Kienzle, on a project when she was at Crate & Barrel and Kienzle was in management of the CTA. She's now a regular customer of Kienzle's at the Northfield Farmers Market each spring and summer.
