Flying 4 Kids: Kite Fly and Family Picnic

Be a part of Flying 4 Kids, a statewide kite fly. Park districts all over Illinois will raise awareness for the Park District Youth License Plateprogram through kite flying. Families, kids, kite enthusiasts and novices are welcome to enjoy a day of good old fashioned kite flying and a picnic 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 6 at the Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane, Schaumburg. Bring a favorite kite or come ready to build one on site with a kite making kit. Wind or no wind, be a part of this event for a great cause! Don’t forget to bring a picnic lunch, too.

Grove Players Presents “Holiday”

Destinations Exhibit at McCord

Bach Week Festival Concert

Guitarist Adam Levin, an international concert and recording artist, will make his Bach Week Festival debut at a concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 4, at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Ave., Evanston.

On Saturday, May 5th, 2012, the Wheaton Kiwanis Club will have its 61st Annual Pancake Day. This will be held in the beautiful Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main Street, Wheaton.

Barrington Area Kid Fest

The Barrington Area Kid Fest, a family-oriented event is hosted by the Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club, the Barrington Park District, and Leave No Child Inside of the Greater Barrington and Lake Zurich area, three community-oriented and non-profit organizations. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Citizens Park, 511 Lake Zurich Road (at Route 14) in Barrington.

23rd Annual Plant Sale

View the full catalog on the Friends’ website, www.fopcon.org. Select from a bounty of vegetables, flowers, vines and ground covers. Included are tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, collards, lantana, salvia, snapdragons, lavender and much more. Almost all are grown in the Conservatory greenhouses. The event will take place Saturday May 5th from 8 am to 4 pm, at 615 Garfield Street, Oak Park.

How to make balloon animals workshop

Did you ever want to learn how to make those cool balloon animals that you see at parties? Well now you can. With just a little practice, children will learn the techniques needed to take a plain balloon and transform it into a fascinating balloon creation (like dogs, butterflies, swords, etc.) At the end of the class children will get to take home all of the things that they made. This class isn’t just for the kids, parents are more than welcome to join their children in the class, at no extra charge. The class takes place at 515 E. Thacker Street, Des Plaines.

Meet Local Author L. Sue Baugh

Evanston author L. Sue Baugh talks about her life-changing journey to document some of the world’s oldest rock and mineral sites in remote places such as Western Australia, Greenland and northwest Canada. The event takes place Saturday, May 5th at the Wilmette Public Library.
