‘That Takes the Cake’ Cake Decorating Contest

Attendees can watch a live cake challenge with 3 challengers seen on TLC’s “Ultimate Cake-Off” and the Food Network Challenge. The North Aurora River District Alliance presents a contest that features wild cake skirmishes, cupcake flight tastings, cake pop demonstrations and lots of cake eating from 1 to 4 p.m. at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St., Batavia. There will also be the opportunity for children age 3 and older who are accompanied by an adult to participate in the free Awesome Art Afternoon where they will learn how to decorate an animal-themed cupcake. Cuisine for a Cause

The 9th Annual Cuisine for a Cause will take place from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at Tellabs Global Headquarters, 1415 W. Diehl Road, Naperville. Proceeds from the event will benefit Naperville CARES. The event will feature sample-size portions of signature dishes from more than 25 Naperville restaurants as well as wine tastings, open bar, entertainment and silent and live auctions.

Go Green! A Celebration of Conservation

The Go Green! A Celebration of Conservation festival will take place at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road, Oak Brook, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 22. 2012 Women’s Cycling Clinic: Empowering Women Through Cycling

Winnetka Library’s Star Wars Party

The library is having a Star Wars Party Saturday April 21 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Have a photo op with some familiar characters, make a yoda finger puppet, sample intergalactic cuisine and test your Jedi skills in the light saber challenge.

Sheep to Shawl at the Children’s Farm April

The Sheep to Shawl event at The Center in Palos Park will focus on demonstrating different forms of shearing. The highlight of the event is the 1:30 p.m. presentation of the sheep which will be accompanied by the pipes and drums of the Emerald Society and then the shearing of the Center’s sheep. Northminster Rummagefest 2012

Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2515 Central Park Ave., Evanston is hosting Rummagefest 2012 on Friday, April 20, 6:30 to 8:30 pm ($ 5 admission) and Saturday, April 21, 8:30 am-3:00 pm (free admission). Friends of the Library Book Sale

There will be a used book sale from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. Saturday, April 21 and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 22. Books will be sorted by category.
