Mayor: Portillo’s a ‘major deal’ for New Lenox

“Conservative estimates” predict that a new restaurant in New Lenox will produce $200,000 in sales tax revenue in addition to a large volume of people with an appetite for hot dogs.

An enthusiastic Mayor Tim Baldermann looked to his left and to his right at a March 26 regular meeting of the New Lenox Village Board suggesting that trustees “fast track” a new Portillo’s on Route 30. No one objected.

“This is a major deal for the village,” Baldermann said of the development proposal which is scheduled for review by the Plan Commission next week. Nancy Boehn, economic development director, said village planners will consider the restaurant project in early April and village trustees will be asked to render final approval at the first meeting in May.
