Pink fire trucks roll into Naperville

The big red fire trucks parked in Downtown Naperville took on a slightly different hue Tuesday afternoon.

Pink fire engines from the Guardians of the Ribbon fleet made a stop in Naperville to promote support for those battling cancers that predominantly affect women.

Surrounded by a wellness fair he organized, sponsored by Firefighters Local 4302, Christopher Brazzale of the Naperville Fire Department said the event carries special meaning for him. After hearing the story of the pink trucks that travel the country, he thought of his mother who passed away 25 years ago from breast cancer and had to try to bring the fleet to Naperville.

“I want people to speak up, I want them to heal, I want them to talk about past victims and present,” Brazzale, a 17-year veteran of the fire department, said. A committee of nine people from the Naperville Fire Department has been planning the wellness fair around the visit for about two-and-a-half months, and everyone involved had a story of a woman affected by cancer.
