Visit the Piet Oudolf-designed gardens of Midwest Groundcovers plus three private homes.

Experience sustainable gardens that feature a beautiful mix of hybridized and native plants, water-wise landscaping and long-lasting beauty on the Sustainable with Style garden bus tour sponsored by The Growing Place on Saturday, June 30. Visit exceptional gardens that create season-long color with minimal maintenance. Discover clever ideas on how you can be eco-friendly, still enjoy bountiful blooms and attract native birds and butterflies.

The day includes docent-led tours of the gardens of Midwest Groundcovers in St. Charles, plus three private homes. Participants begin with the Piet Oudolf-designed gardens at Midwest Groundcovers. Oudolf is known for his work on the Lurie Garden at Millennium Park in Chicago. The gardens at Midwest Groundcovers feature hardy plants chosen for their long blossoming, drought tolerance and winter interest. Find out just how beautiful this mix of grasses, perennials and bulbs is at its summer peak. While at Midwest Groundcovers, the program will include a tour of their nursery production facilities, highlighting their many sustainable practices.

The bus will stop at a private home on approximately two acres in St. Charles. This is a lovely blend of woodland gardens under mature oaks and sunny spaces featuring an extensive daylily collection. From St. Charles the tour continues east to a one-acre private home in Winfield on a small lake. Here, find extraordinary rain gardens, a secret garden and more than 40 species of trees. There are also several experiments in process of low maintenance lawn alternatives focused on less mowing with more beauty. The tour will finish in Naperville at a typical-sized suburban home featuring a prairie meadow-style planting. Find out how to transform even a small space into a wildlife-rich retreat.

The registration fee is $65, $55 for Growing Rewards Members of The Growing Place. The trip includes a boxed lunch, afternoon snacks and informative handouts aboard a luxury motorcoach. Seats are limited. The trip leaves at 8:00 am from The Growing Place in Naperville on Plank Road. To reserve a space, please call The Growing Place at 630-355-4000.
