Edward employee recognized by the FDA

Lynn Hansen1

Lynne Hansen, a Lactation Consultant for Edward Hospital’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), was recently recognized by the Food and Drug Administration for an Outstanding Contribution in Promoting Patient Safety with Medical Devices. Hansen reported a problem with a breast pump kit that caused breast milk to back up into the pump tubing, creating the potential bacteria growth, a special concern for very fragile NICU infants. The FDA notified the breast pump manufacturer about the problem. The manufacturer was unable to recall the pump parts because the specific lot number affected could not be determined, but the manufacturer will replace the kits that are known to be affected.
