Hope United Church of Christ in Naperville will present Godspell, the popular musical extravaganza, which shares the Gospel of Saint Matthew. First opening in 1971, Godspell was written by Stephen Schwartz (WICKED). Godspell has been one of the biggest hits on and off Broadway and has enjoyed rave reviews since in its re-release last year. The high energy show features an eclectic array of music including rock, pop, R&B and more.

Pastor Timoth Sylvia of Hope UCC, who will play the role of Jesus in Godspell, said that the church has embarked on this production for several reasons. “On one front, it’s outreach to the community. We are hoping that people will come and enjoy the show and see the energy and passion and warmth of the people of Hope,” he said. “We will be collecting non-perishable food items for Green Harvest Food Pantry,” he added. Furthermore, Sylvia in addition to many of the friends and members of Hope, have had theatrical and musical training, and so have looked forward to this opportunity to showcase their talents. “This has been a lot of work, but also a lot of fun and a great bonding experience for us to put together,” said Sylvia. “We’re so looking forward to sharing this with the community.”

Godspell will be presented on Friday, June 1 at 8 p.m., Saturday June 2 at 4 and 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Center Stage Theater, 1665 Quincy Ave., Suite 131. Tickets are $20/adult, $15/seniors and adults, with group rates available. For additional information, visit For tickets call 630-922-0470.
