A classic read, but what a classic! Extremely readable today. he story is from the perspective of two men, who are brothers, living in London at the turn of the 20th century. The main narrator of the story tells of how he recognized and ultimately survived the invasion from Mars in the London countryside. His brother tells his story of what he saw in the city of London during the invasion. The descriptions of the invaders is not dated at all, but very realistic. Though the destruction of London is extensive, the strength of the human spirit to survive is immense. This is edge of your seat, apocalyptic fiction at its best!

A trip to Egypt is just what Anna Fox needs after a bitter and humiliating divorce. She decides to follow in the steps of her great-great grandmother Louisa, who traveled to Egypt to paint. Anna packs Louisa’s diary to follow as sort of a travelogue through the pyramids and the Valley of the Kings. Anna also takes along what she thinks is a perfume bottle from Egypt as sort of a good luck token. Both the diary and the bottle bring Anna anything but good luck and fortune. Someone is dying to get their hands on both, even at the cost of Anna’s life.
