State soccer brings in red-hot area teams

Last weekend Lisle fans had a chance to cheer in the IHSA Class 1A state soccer finals in Naperville. This weekend the class 2A and 3A finals take place at North Central College. (Jeff Vorva/Tribune)

The Class 2A and 3A Illinois High School Association girls soccer state finals are ready to roll Friday and Saturday at North Central College in Naperville.
Here is a look at the TribLocal area teams still alive in Final Four play:

Class 3A

Naperville North: The Huskies won the first ever state championship in girls soccer in 1988 and haven’t won a title since.
They head into the final four with a 22-1-2 mark and outscored their five postseason opponents by a combined score of 21-3.
Junior Zoe Swift has 23 goals and freshman Abbie Boswell has 12 goals and 12 assists.

Glenbrook South: The Titans (21-4-4) are making their second appearance in the final four after taking fourth in 2010.
They haven’t lost since April 19 and have outscored opponents 59-5 during a 15-game winning streak.
Junior April Cronin has 26 goals and nine assists to lead the team.

St. Charles North: The North Stars (18-5-2) headed into the postseason losing three of their final five regular-season games. But they turned it around in the postseason and shut out five opponents.
Senior Lauren Koehl has 22 goals to lead the North Stars.

Downers Grove South: Coach Barry Jacobson has 488 career wins and a second-, third-, and two fourth-place finishes in the state. The Mustangs are hoping to bring him his first title this year.
After dropping a 5-0 decision to York to close the regular season, the Mustangs won five straight in the postseason including a 2-1 win over York in sectional play.
Senior Sarrah Ludwig has 29 goals for the Mustangs.

Class 2A
Wheaton St. Francis:
The Spartans bring in a 22-3 mark and beat rival Wheaton Academy for the first time in 12 seasons in the sectional final.
The Spartans have outscored their postseason opponents 22-2. It’s the first final four appearance for the team.
Amanda Gaggioli scored a goal in regulation and Sydney Fox added the deciding penalty kick in a 2-1 victory over Benet in the supersectional Tuesday to advance.

St. Viator: The Lions own a 15-8-4 mark and have shut out all five of their postseason opponents.
Senior Katelyn Hammmarlund leads the team with 12 goals and 16 assists.
The Lions won Class A State titles in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
