NCHS gets green light for stadium, baseball field improvements

Naperville Central High School athletic fields are on tap for more than $800,000 in renovations.

The school board on Wednesday approved a $409,000 bid for work on the outside of the football stadium that will include a new brick facade, metal panels and columns.

Steve Mathis, director of buildings and grounds for Naperville Unit District 203, said the current facade is cracking and “needed a facelift.” The work, which will be done this summer, will make the stadium blend in with the new concession stand and the newly renovated school.

The school board also approved a $419,700 bid for improvements to Central’s varsity baseball field.  That work will include new fencing and the replacement of the dugouts, bleachers and concrete walkways. Making improvements was part of District 203′s lease agreement with the Naperville Park District.
