We could see northern lights tonight, thanks to solar flare

For the second time in just three months, people in the Chicago area have a shot at seeing the northern lights this evening.

That’s because the biggest solar flare in seven years reached the Earth’s atmosphere on Tuesday, releasing a surge of energy that will feed the red-green glow of the northern lights, more formally known as the aurora borealis.
