Naperville Mayor George Pradel appeared headed toward a fifth – and he says final – term as leader of the large suburban community, unofficial election results show Tuesday.

Pradel secured 65 percent of the vote with 93 precincts reporting in the three-way race. (More photos: Pradel celebrates)

“We’ll just pick right up where we left off. We’ve got a council meeting tomorrow night, and we’ll all be working together,” Pradel said Tuesday night.

Pradel’s re-election guarantees his title of the city’s longest serving mayor. A referendum passed in November capped the amount of time a mayor or councilman can serve to three terms.

Pradel said he is looking forward to cheerleading the city through the next four years, and hopes to retire his position as mayor with Naperville on its way to economic recovery. (Update: Read about how Pradel ready to give others opportunities to lead)
