Bond set at $15K for man charged with shaking baby

Bond was set at $15,000 for a Mount Prospect man charged Jan. 18 with shaking his infant son because he wouldn’t stop crying, police said.

Julian Santos, 21, of the first block of North Main Street, was charged with aggravated domestic battery and a misdemeanor charge of violating an order of protection. The incident occurred on Jan. 5 while Santos was babysitting for the 6-month-old, police said.

Police said Santos became frustrated with the boy and shook him until he was unconscious. He and the boy’s mother drove the child to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights for treatment. The baby was later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge.

Police said Santos had an order of protection issued in October 2011, prohibiting contact with the infant.

Santos is due in court again on Feb. 10.

Police launched the investigation after hospital officials notified the Department of Children and Family Services, where the baby is now in protective custody.
