Sheryl DeVore

Community producer
Hello TribLocal readers. I'm Sheryl DeVore, Community Producer and Reporter for TribLocal. I manage 10 Web sites, help prepare the print edition, write stories, take photos and prepare videos. In addition, I'm here to help anyone who has questions about TribLocal, how to post, how to get stories on line,or what's happening in the neighborhood. The towns in my beat include Antioch, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Gurnee, Grayslake, Round Lake area, Libertyville, Mundelein, Vernon Hills, Lincolnshire and Lake Zurich, which includes Hawthorn Woods and Wauconda.

I've been involved in journalism for more than 20 years, covering Lake and northern Cook County towns as an editor, writer, designer and producer. My passion is for community journalism--there are so many inspiring stories to tell about folks living in the suburbs. These stories can serve to entertain as well as help others with challenges they face. Journalism to me is a way to educate others, and to tell compelling stories.

I'm a longtime Lake County resident and love all the towns, their unique attributes and most of all, the people.

If you read the pages of TribLocal either online or in print, you'll notice that some of my stories and photos involve the natural world. I've been writing about the environment, flora and fauna for more than 20 years and believe we need to be connected with nature more to balance our busy lives. I'm particularly fond of birding--and have written three books about birds and researchers in Illinois and Michigan. I have seen more than 325 bird species in Illinois alone. I also like to travel when there's time and sufficient funds to learn more about different cultures and the birds in different parts of the world.
Music is also part of my life--I perform with a group called Flutopia in the suburbs, and it gives me great joy.

Other interests include meditation, yoga, exercise and the power of breathing and learning compassion for myself and others.

Please do call me or email me if you have any questions or thoughts about TribLocal.

  9. Just gorgeous photos! One thing, though, the finch you photographed so well is a House Finch, not a Purple Finch. I can explain the difference if you email me at sdevore@tribune.com.

  10. Yes, wildflowers are wonderful, Wayne. My backyard has two mini-prairies with wildflowers. Thanks for the note and post your photos if you get a chance. We love to see what others are doing in their gardens.
