Longtime suburban fire chief dies

Former Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Chief Paul H. “Bud” Boecker received numerous awards and accolades during more than 40 years as a firefighter.

Mr. Boecker helped convert Lisle’s volunteer department into a full-time department that later became the first fire district in the nation to receive the highest ranking on the Insurance Service Organization’s Fire Suppression Rating Schedule.

Mr. Boecker, 79, a former chairman of the Emergency Management Committee of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, died Sunday, Aug. 14, in ManorCare at Naperville, a nursing home. No details were released on the cause of death other than it came after a short illness.
