Allen Kulbersh thanks the ‘phenomenal’ staff, including Physical Therapist Pia Tayag, at Alden Long Grove for getting him back on his feet following spinal surgery.

Allen Kulbersh chose Alden Long Grove sight unseen after spinal fusion surgery – he never toured the rehabilitation center before arriving on March 29, 2012 from Evanston Hospital, part of NorthShore University Health System.
“I chose Alden Long Grove based on an extensive online search. My neurosurgeon’s office gave me a number of choices of rehab facilities based on my insurance. When I looked at the various reviews, Alden Long Grove was the clear winner,” says Kulbersh of Buffalo Grove who is the Internet Sales Manager for advertising/marketing for Steve Foley Cadillac, Rolls-Royce, Bentley Northbrook and Spyker of Chicago.
“The facility had all of the things I needed – consistent medical care was very important as I had fallen three times at the hospital. I was on heavy pain medications as well as blood thinners. I needed an aggressive physical therapy program and Alden Long Grove offered it two times a day; WiFi so I could work; and post-acute services. I had a multi-level lumbar spinal fusion procedure and most other facilities only focus on orthopedic recovery. “
Kulbersh is in his early 50s and said his therapy goal was to get back to work as quickly as possible.
“Prior to surgery, I was only able to stand in one-minute increments before I had to sit down. I chose Alden Long Grove for rehab because I wanted a facility that would push me to recover as quickly as possible, and Alden did that for me. Since the hospital I was in for 16 days did not give me physical therapy, I was in bad shape when I came to Alden. My physical therapists at Alden Long Grove worked me really hard and I was able to walk out with only a cane two weeks after I arrived.”
Kulbersh credits Alden Long Grove’s aggressive therapy program for getting him home in just two weeks after a major eight-hour spinal surgery and recognizes the staff for everything else.
“The staff was phenomenal – everyone went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. They brought meals to my room if I didn’t feel like eating in the dining room; straightened my bed throughout the day; they would always ask how I was feeling physically and mentally. Simply said, they made me feel special.”
