U.S. Congressman Robert Dold will be the recipient of the FED ED Champion of Public Education award, during FED ED's annual spring legislative luncheon, which will take place at Noon, Friday, May 11 at Rosewood Restaurant, 9421 W. Higgins Road, Rosemont, Illinois.

FED ED stands for federal representation, education and communication; and is a consortium of Illinois school districts, educational organizations and corporate sponsors that represents the interests of suburban schools in the nation's capitol. FED ED Co-Directors are former North Shore school superintendents – Dr. Harry Rossi and Dave Peterson.

Congressman Dold represents the 10th Congressional district which includes many FED ED member districts. Both Rossi and Peterson are members of the Congressman’s Education Advisory Committee, and they maintain that the Congressman has been very supportive of FED ED’s legislative priorities.

"Congressman Dold has extensive and diverse experience both as a small business owner, and in Washington, DC, where he worked on campaign finance reform during his tenure as an investigative counsel for the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee. In Congress, he is focused on bipartisan solutions for creating jobs, protecting the environment, keeping the homeland secure and ending human rights injustices around the world. As the first Member of the Freshman Class to pass a bill, the Congressman has stayed true to his commitment to provide independent leadership for a stronger economy," said Co-Director Dave Peterson.

Each year Dr. Rossi and Mr. Peterson award public officials the FED ED Champion of Public Education Award. The award is given to public officials who vigorously support children and their right to a quality public education. Some of the individuals who have received this award in the past include Illinois State Superintendent Chris Koch, Congresswoman Judith Biggert, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Manager of Federal Advocacy for the National Education Association, Mary Kusler, Congressman Danny Davis, Chief Legal Counsel for the U.S. Department of Education, Charlie Rose and Senator Mark Kirk.

FED ED now has over 110 members, representing school districts that range from the Indiana border to the Wisconsin border with over 500,000 students.
The cost of the luncheon is $40.00 per person. For more information, contact Dave Peterson at 630-533-1009, or; or Harry Rossi at 847-370-8956, or
