Scholarship awarded to Stevenson student

The Friends of the Vernon Area Public Library congratulate Elizabeth O’Hara, winner of the third annual Allen Meyer Memorial Scholarship. O’Hara lives in Lincolnshire and is a senior at Adlai E. Stevenson High School. She plans to study history education and pursue a career as a bilingual history teacher at the junior high or high school level.

The $2,000 Allen Meyer Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Friends of the Vernon Area Public Library in honor of former Vernon Area Public Library director Allen Meyer, who passed away in 2008. The scholarship is awarded to one high school senior in the Vernon Area Public Library District each year. Applicants are required to write an essay illustrating how the library has affected their life or educational goals, along with submitting transcripts that demonstrate academic achievement.

The Friends of the Library board president Angela Goodrich will award the scholarship check to winner Elizabeth O’Hara at their next meeting on March 21, 2012, at 7 p.m.
