In Celebration of Sustainability

In celebration of sustainability, Will County students are exhibiting artwork exploring the topics of “sustainability” and “sustainable communities” in the GR2012 Celebrating Sustainability Student Art Exhibit, on display May 1 through May 19, 2012. The art will be exhibited at Gallery 7 (116 N. Chicago St. Suite 102, gallery hours 11am-2pm, M-Fr, and the first Saturday of each month from 10-Noon) and on May 19th at the GR2012 Celebrating Sustainability Festival, at the Joliet Junior College Main Campus (9 am- 7 pm). A reception for the artists to open the exhibit will be at Gallery 7 on Sunday, May 6th from 1-3 pm. The public is welcome to attend both the exhibit and reception at no charge. Merit awards for exhibited artwork will be given in all three age categories: K-5, Junior High, and High School. Awards will be presented May 19 at noon on the festival’s Main Stage.

The GR2012 Celebrating Sustainability Student Art Exhibit is presented in conjunction with the GR2012 Celebrating Sustainability Festival, which celebrates and explores sustainable practices, technologies and initiatives happening in and around Will County. The art exhibit was initiated to give students an opportunity to visually express their thoughts and concerns about environmental issues.

The GR2012 Celebrating Sustainability Festival is honored to partner with Gallery 7 for the student art exhibit. Fittingly, the student art will be on display in conjunction with Gallery 7’s retrospective exhibition of Joliet artist, philanthropist and public servant John V. Hudak. As a teacher and nature lover, Hudak would have embraced showing his work alongside children’s art relating to the environment. John Hudak's Junction, a Retrospective, showing works in pen and ink and watercolor, will run at the gallery May 3 through June 2, with an opening reception on Saturday May 5 from 6-8 pm.

Gallery 7 is operated by a group of artists and is celebrating its 5th year bringing exciting artwork to Joliet and the southwest suburbs, it is located at 116 N. Chicago St. Suite 102, in downtown Joliet next to the historic Rialto Theater. Admission to the gallery is free and it is open to the public. Usual hours of business are Monday-Friday 11-2 and first Saturday of each month from 10-Noon. You are encouraged to call 815 726-1840 for weekend and evening hours.
