Mayor Tom Giarrante and the Joliet City Council congratulate the staff and volunteers of the Joliet Area Historical Museum on the recent Superior Award from the Illinois Association of Museums for its “Bucket Brigades to Tactical Units: Joliet Fire and Police Departments” exhibit.

The successful exhibit highlighted the history, service and dedication of the City of Joliet Police and Fire Departments to the community through documented artifacts, photos and accounts. Showcasing the community’s pride and history in this exhibit was key to both the curator and volunteers involved in the project. “I was very impressed when I attended the opening of the Police & Fire exhibit. As a Firefighter for 22 years the exhibit brought back many memories. I would love to attend the ceremonies on October 21st, however that day my wife and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary,” stated Mayor Tom Giarrante.

The Illinois Association of Museums Award will be formally presented to the Joliet Area Historical Museum on October 21, 201.
