Historic Lithophanes at Tinker Swiss Cottage in Rockford

A lithophane is an etched or molded image in thin translucent porcelain. Unlike a photograph, which is two dimensional, a lithophane image is three dimensional. The image is only be fully visible when the lithophane is back lit.

This historic light fixture hangs in Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum and Gardens in Rockford, Illinois.

National Trust for Historic Preservation "This Place Matters" Community Challenge second place finisher.

One of the "150 Greatest Places in Illinois" …Illinois American Institute of Architects.
