Cops: Homeless man who went on crime spree charged in Shorewood man’s slaying

A homeless man has been charged with murder in the beating death of a longtime employee of a Shorewood-area business Sunday, police said.

Michael T. Eberle, 42, who’s believed to have been living in the Hammel Woods Forest Preserve in Shorewood, is charged with murder in the slaying of Patrick M. Shaughnessy, 69, of Shorewood, the Will County Sheriff’s police said in a news release this morning. Shaughnessy is believed to have died from blunt force trauma, and an autopsy is scheduled for today, according to the Will County coroner’s office.
