Man confesses 4 years later: ‘I was the one who hit your sister’

Michelle Lech spent four years contemplating the identity of the nameless, faceless hit-and-run driver who killed her sister as she walked along a Joliet street.

Then Sunday morning, he rang her doorbell, she said.

David McCarthy, 27, of Naperville, repeatedly told Lech’s husband he needed to speak to Michelle, then told her he had information about her sister’s death. They let him inside their Plainfield home.
