‘Twilight’ fans face off at premier of ‘Eclipse’

Team Edward or Team Jacob seemed to be the biggest decision “Twilight” fans faced last night going into the June 30 premier of “Eclipse,” a film based on the third book in author Stephanie Meyer’s four-book best-selling series: the “Twilight” vampire saga. “Twilight” enthusiasts drew the line, took sides and proudly donned their chosen heartthrob on T-shirts, sweatshirts and in doll form.

At the stroke of 12:01 a.m. fans of all ages and from all over Illinois came together at the AMC of South Barrington to watch werewolf Jacob Black and vampire Edward Cullen battle it out for the love of main character, Bella Swan, while an army of vampires descends upon the sleepy Seattle suburb of Forks.

Fans arrived as early as 5 p.m. for the midnight premier being shown in several theaters at AMC. Lines trickled down hallways, wrapped around corners and stretched out the door. The theater also showed a three-movie back-to-back showing of "Twilight," "New Moon" and "Eclipse," enabling fans to get a six-hour fill of their favorite series.

Nearby, dine-in Gold Class Cinemas celebrated the movie’s premier a bit differently by creating a special Twilight movie menu featuring dishes like vegetarian steaks with bloody aioli, werewolf chicken fritters and Jacob’s killer brownie to serve during the showing of the film. Instead of waiting in unending lines, a handful of movie-goers dotted the bar area sipping wine and pre-movie cocktails or lounged by one of two fireplaces flanking the swanky lobby of the building. Despite a bit more refinery, fans still came prepared, wearing the movies namesake clothing and homemade “I love Edward Cullen” T-shirts.
