Willow Creek Sponsors 5K Run/Walk

Willow Creek Huntley to raise money for shoes for children

Willow Creek Huntley to raise money for shoes for children

On April 21, Willow Creek Community Church's Huntley campus sponsors a family friendly 5K Run/Walk. “In developing countries where clean water is in scarce supply, children—usually girls—must walk long distances to fetch water for their family,” says Craig Springer, campus pastor at Willow Creek's Huntley campus. “The reality of a small child lugging water such a long distance several times a day—and often barefoot—is what sparked the idea of holding a 5K run/walk race on behalf of those children.” As a result, proceeds from the USATF-certified race will go toward purchasing shoes for children in the Domican Republic who are struggling against global poverty.

The Willow Creek 5K Run/Walk kicks off Willow’s Celebration of Hope 2012 campaign, April 21–May 6, led by Willow Creek’s Compassion & Justice ministry. “This year's campaign, ‘Hope for Her,’ takes aim at the unfair slant of hardship and injustice facing women and girls in developing countries,” says Springer. “The race is a great way to raise awareness in our community of the plight of those struggling against global poverty.”

The race takes place at Huntley Park District, 12015 Mill Street in Huntley. Registration for this event ends April 17.
