16U SOX ACADEMY WINS 18U FASTPITCH SHOOTOUT IN PEKIN

Team battles back to win seven games in a row

LISLE, IL. The Chicago Bulls/Chicago White Sox Training Academy announced today that the 16U Academy fastpitch travel team won the Pekin Dragon Dome 18U Shootout that was held the February 19-21, 2010.

The White Sox Training Academy 16U entered the weekend as an underdog as it was playing up a level and competing against 18U teams from Illinois. The Sox Academy players persevered after losing their first round contest on Friday night. The squad re-grouped and proceeded to win the next seven in a row, including six games on Sunday, with great pitching performances by Taylor Weissenhofer and Amanda Barna. The Sox Academy benefitted from timely hitting all weekend long including six home runs that came off the bats of Kelsey Ullrich (2), Abby Ramirez (2), Kelsey Gonzalez and Emily Watts. Kendall Duffy provided outstanding leadership and fantastic defense from behind the plate.

Every kid on this team contributed either defensively or offensively to win this tournament. It was a complete team effort and they had so much fun winning six games on Sunday, said 16U White Sox Academy Head Coach Erin Gibler. This was a great way to end our fall and winter season. I feel very confident that they are all prepared to head into their high school seasons and continue being successful.
