Chicago Lighthouse Brings Vision Care Products to Hinsdale April 10th

CHICAGO — In an effort to reach out to west suburban residents and their family members who may be experiencing vision loss, The Chicago Lighthouse is bringing its Low Vision Products Road Show to Hinsdale on Tuesday, April 10th, from 11:30 am to 3 pm.

The free program, which will take place at the Community House, 415 W. Eighth Street, is being held in conjunction with the Hinsdale/Burr Ridge Aging Well CAT Team’s Workshop focusing on Eye Health.

Highlights will include products from the HumanWare Company, a leader in low vision technology and products throughout the world; SmartView Synergy CCTV Reading Machines, SmartView 360 Camera and Reading System, which allows the customer to read, write, see their own face and even view distant objects; the HumanWare Versa and Versa+ portable video magnifiers, talking clocks & watches; large button phones & cell phones; kitchen items & independent living aides; sunglasses & accessories; portable task lamps; portable, handheld, CCTV magnifiers; accessibility software & computer aides; and the Intel Reader & knfbReader, which takes pictures of text and reads it aloud.

“Everyone is invited to come and watch as our staff will demonstrate and explain products that can help with school, work and daily life,” said Tom Perski, senior vice president of rehabilitation services at The Chicago Lighthouse.

Perski notes that the products will be available for sale at the Low Vision Products Show and are always available at the Lighthouse’s Tools for Living store located in its headquarters building at 1850 W. Roosevelt Road in Chicago. The store, which is believed to be among the first of its kind in the nation, is especially designed to meet the needs of consumers who are blind or visually impaired.

Products are also available for purchase online. To view them, visit www.chicagolighthouse.org, and click shop online. Larger items and technology will be delivered to the customer’s home by a Lighthouse representative with training and installation provided free of charge.
